Sunday shouts

Time now for a special Sunday shoutout for some of our high school athletes for you this morning. Much of this is going to be Cedarcrest-oriented and I want to quickly thank coaches Vik Ignacio from Red Wolve volleyball and Bruce McDowell from Red Wolve cross country for sending their results our direction to include in this. I expect to have this for the remainder of fall sports by the way. Mount Si families, let your coaches know to send stats to snovalleysports@gmail.com for inclusion in this shoutout.

We'll lead off with volleyball. Cedarcrest's ladies are for the first time in recent memory 2-0 in league play to start the season. We expected this to be the case for them moving to Kingco and we were right about that, and we are sure the girls are enjoying it and gaining confidence at the same time. The Red Wolves swept Highline at home last Tuesday 25-13, 25-18, 25-18. Shouts for that game go to Kaylee Rogers, who had seven aces and seven kills, Cruise Cullen, who had four kills and two blocks, and Paige Roberts, who had four aces and 11 assists.
The Red Wolves then went down to Burien this past Thursday and took care of Evergreen's Wolverines 25-18, 25-18, 16-25, 25-17. Shouts there are for Maddie Benjamin, who had 11 kills and two blocks, Lexi Beck, who had six kills, Lola Fryc, who had 15 assists and Avery Lenizewski, who pounded out seven digs, four aces and four kills.
A shout also to the daughter of retired Mount Si head coach Bonnie Foote, who is establishing herself as a setting machine early in this season for her Tahoma Bears. Senior Isabelle Foote opened the season with a 24-assist effort for the Bears in a win over her mom's former club, and has propelled that into a strong start to the fall campaign. She has 99 total on the season, an average of just under 20 a match, which leads the team in that category, and has in addition to the 24-assist effort against the Wildcats two other matches where she reached that 20-assist plateau. Isabelle is not committed to playing collegiately yet but these numbers hopefully will portend to some college offering her an opportunity next fall.
Cross country now. Mount Si and Cedarcrest opened Kingco action this past Tuesday with a Valley Cup clash that had a pair of other teams, Inglemoor and Eastlake, dropping in to also compete. The event was at South Fork Landing Park in North Bend.
There were a slew of boys and girls from both schools who finished in the top 10 in their respective meets. The girls led it off and the Cossey's, seniors Hailey and Aleeya, led the Valley group with second and third-place finishes respectively in that race for Mount Si. Hailey clocked 17 minutes, 44.60 seconds and was followed a couple seconds later by Aleeya. Lydia Swenson took fifth to lead Cedarcrest clocking 18:16.50, and Red Wolve Stella Metcalf (seventh) and Wildcat Ryan McLellan (ninth) rounded out the Valley top-tens. Mount Si won the team result with Cedarcrest taking fourth.
The boys had a total of six Valley runners, three from each school, make it in the top 10 and that helped see both schools finish neck and neck behind Eastlake in the runner-up spots in the boys' team competition. Cedarcrest's Teagan Randles led the group finishing third clocking 16:13.50, and Mount Si's Nate Dillon was right behind in fourth clocking 16:25.50. Pierce Graham was behind Dillon in fifth with the CHS'er clocking 16:27.40. Red Wolve teammate Jake Zlateff finished seven, and Mount Si's Marco Creal (eighth) and Logan Green (10th) rounded out the Valley top-tens in the meet. Good stuff and a shout to all of these young men and women from both schools. Cross country is fast becoming a feature sport at both schools and that can only mean good rivalry races in the years ahead as long as both schools remain together in Kingco.
We were hoping to get some football for you but Cedarcrest did not get theirs in by the deadline so they are not included this week. Hopefully we will have them next week for you here.
Coming up shortly, our college shouts.
