Tuesday shouts round two

Time now for our bonus stuff on this Tuesday. We are going to lead off with baseball. Couple of items from there. First, while most of the youth fall stuff on the diamond is with girls’ softball, there is a little bit of baseball also going on. A pair of Mount Si High School players got reps in this past Saturday in a game with the Washington A’s fall squad. The A’s, an 18U team, held off Washington Select in the contest 4-3. Wildcats Owen Krasowski and J.D. Tenhulzen both pitched in the game for the A’s, based in Sammamish. Each pitched two innings, with Krasowski allowing a walk while striking out five for the win, and Tenhulzen allowing a hit while striking out four receiving no decision. Both players also hit in the game, each going 0-1 although Tenhulzen walked once and also scored a run. Most players are currently preparing for the upcoming spring high school season with Mount Si or Cedarcrest.

CHS alum Aaron Davenport closed out the 2024 season in professional baseball with a strong playoff performance last Friday. Davenport, from Duvall, pitched three innings and got the win in relief for the Akron Rubber Ducks as they beat Erie in a playoff game; the Seawolves beat Akron last Saturday in the rubber match of the best-of-three series eliminating the Rubber Ducks from the postseason. Akron is affiliated with the Cleveland Guardians of Major League Baseball.
To golf, which is a late add to this, but we felt like we needed to give this a mention quickly this morning. University of Washington senior men’s competitor Drew Warford had the best day of his college golf career yesterday, and he did it on home soil in the Valley. Warford, who graduated from Mount Si and is from Snoqualmie, carded rounds of 65 and 69 at Fall City’s Aldarra Golf Club and sits going into today’s third and final round of the Tindall Golf Classic a stroke off the lead in the tournament in second place.
The tourney leader is from the University of Utah, one of several other schools whose men’s golf teams are competing in this tournament being hosted by the UW at Aldarra. The 65 for Warford was the best round of his college career and it earned praise from his coach. "(Drew) is the most experienced man in the field on this golf course and I think that gave him confidence," said head coach Alan Murray in comments released by the school. "He played some excellent golf today." Local knowledge never hurt, didn’t it? Good stuff and several of his friends from Mount Si sent word of the performance around on X so we know it’s getting a lot of kudos from Wildcat country. WTG Drew and Go Dawgs!
Volleyball and we normally would hold this until Saturday, but we figured we might as well mention this since this happened last night. Cedarcrest High School’s ladies played the Sky Valley rivalry against Monroe and were swept by the Bearcats, 25-23, 25-11, 25-22. Maddie Benjamin led the Red Wolves with five blocks and four kills while Kaylee Rogers added five kills and a block. CHS is back in Kingco play tonight against Linbbergh from Renton at home at 7:00 in Duvall as the Red Wolves look to go a magnificent – and historic – 3-0 to start a league schedule. It has been a long, long time since CHS started 2-0 in a league schedule, so to go 3-0 would mean the world for the girls’ confidence, so here’s hoping they can get it done tonight.
Rounding things out, the motorsports season closed on a strong note this past Saturday for Red Wolve girls’ hoopster Kaylee Decker, as she took a season-best third place finish in the season finale race for her in the INEX Legends competition, at South Sound Speedway outside of Tenino in Thurston County. We’ll share a post from her in a moment that talks about the craziness of the finish she was involved in in that race to get that fantastic result, a finish that is something that you sometimes see on the racetrack but fortunately for the Valley teen, she came out of it in a very good place although perhaps her car, the #86, took a little bit of a beating to get there. We’d look for her to hop back in the car next spring following the girls’ hoops season, with many of her races taking place up at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe.
A lot of good things happening for our community’s young men and women on the athletic field and we are happy to be able to share this on this Tuesday for you.
