Saturday shouts

Time now for our Saturday shoutouts from high school sports. Cedarcrest is largely again our shoutout capital and we focus on volleyball.

The Red Wolve ladies are 4-0 in league for the first time in many, many years and it took a little bit of work last night for CHS, but once they were able to figure things out, they took care of business, taking down Foster in four sets, 27-29, 25-10, 25-14, 25-14, at Foster High School in Tukwila. Maddie Benjamin gets a shout this morning on the strength of a 14-kill, six block effort which also included an ace. Lauren Warden had 17 digs, way to go, while Paige Roberts had 16 assists along with three kills, three assists and two digs. Lola Fryc rounded it out with nine assists, six digs and three aces.
Tuesday, the Red Wolves rebounded from their Monday loss which we mentioned earlier this week to Monroe and cruised past Lindbergh in three, 25-13, 25-21, 25-17. Kaylee Rogers had five kills, two aces and five digs while Lexi Beck had four kills and Thea Wood chipped in two kills, an ace and a dig. Roberts led the way with 16 assists, three kills, three aces and two digs. Rounding it out, we neglected a stat line from the Monroe report earlier this week, and that was for Hasitha Chaparala, who had five digs and an ace. Want to make sure that I am recognizing as many girls as I am able to in this shoutout this week. Thanks once again to coach Vik Ignacio for sending us the stats. The girls are getting better and how they responded to the early challenge in last night’s match is an example of this in action. Way to go ladies and keep up the good work this coming week!
Cross country takes us to St. Edward State Park in Kenmore where both Mount Si and Cedarcrest competed in Kingco action in two separate meets this week. Wednesday, the Red Wolves took on Newport, Lake Washington and Inglemoor up there with the boys scoring the first cross country win in Kingco action since the school re-joined the league this summer; CHS was a member previously of Kingco in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. Shouts to their four top runners – Pierce Graham, Teagan Randles, Jake Zlateff and Brooks Sammarco, all of whom had top 10 finishes in the race, led by Graham’s second-place time of 17 minutes, 11.92 seconds. Nice job gentlemen!
Cedarcrest’s girls finished third in their team competition, with Stella Metcalf finishing second in that race clocking 19:17.54. Lydia Swenson finished fifth.
Mount Si faced Woodinville and Issaquah Thursday up there, with the squad resting top runners in advance of the big Nike regional meet today down in Portland. Clara Von Trapp led the Wildcat girls with a 22:29.1 time finishing 15th and Andy McAllister led Mount Si’s boys with a 28th-place 19:47.2.
Last weekend, CHS was over in Yakima at the Apple Ridge Run Invite, which has been a past favorite of Red Wolve coach Bruce McDowell. Of note there, Graham finished third in the meet’s first race, clocking 16 minutes, and Randles finished second in the third race clocking 16:28. Swenson and Metcalf handled affairs for the girls in the second race for them, Swenson finishing second and Metcalf taking third. The races were divided into three separate courses, the first being a figure eight, the second being a race course-style track and the third being a perimeter loop around the orchard where the event was taking place.
So that is all for this week. More tomorrow and on Tuesday of course and if you Mount Si folks want mentions here, have your team coaches send us reports at snovalleysports@gmail.com.
