Saturday shouts

Time for our high school Saturday shouts. Want to start with some football and a pair of wins last night. Great job Mount Si to come back from down 14-0 at half to win the game on a field goal with 40 seconds left beating Woodinville 21-20, and Cedarcrest as well, shouts to you guys on your 55-0 blowout over Evergreen/Tyee. Want to make a quick mention though of something that happened late in that Cedarcrest game last night that I saw this morning on the NFHS stream of the contest - that injury to the E/T QB that happened with about a minute left in regulation and resulted in the player being taken I'm presuming over to Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland by the fantastic aid crew from the Duvall Fire Department. 10 years ago almost to this exact week, Mount Si's football team when it was still part of Kingco 3A, faced Sammamish, and late in that game, which was similarly one-sided to last night's game, a Sammamish player suffered a serious injury which required aid and a t...

Sunday shouts

Good Sunday morning. Time for another round of Sunday college shoutouts for you. We have a dual headliner this morning involving a pair of young ladies from the lower Valley who dazzled yesterday in their respective sports, helping their teams post successful results. First, we hit the soccer pitch, where Carnation's Madelyn "Mad Dog" Davidson was once again a difference maker for Southeastern University of Florida's ladies. The junior scored both of her team's goals, including the game winner with about five minutes left in regulation, helping SEU sneak past New College of Florida last night 2-1 on the Florida Gulf Coast. Davidson, a junior with the Fire, had a total of seven shots recorded in the game, five on goal, as the Fire needed every last bit of the Cedarcrest HS grad's energy to score that much-needed win as Southeastern has struggled to start the season. WTG Mad Dog! Also, Duvall's Ellie Sivesind gets a shout this morning. The swimmer compet...

Softball shouts

Time now for our Tuesday softball shoutouts this morning and it was a fairly busy weekend once again this past weekend for young ladies from the Valley and their families, as the out-of-town portion of the fall schedule is now getting underway. Several teams from our area featuring players with ties to the Valley were over in the Tri-Cities at the USA Preps Play in Pink tournament. The teams for the most part were very successful, and those local players proved important. Woodinville's Absolute Blast Pettit 16U's got a solid performance in the circle Sunday from Mount Si High School sophomore Jenna Nowak in a 7-3 win over southwest Washington-based Sabotage Northwest. Nowak went the distance allowing the three runs on four hits striking out five. She also had a hit in the game offensively. Cedarcrest High School's Paityn Craig is also on the team and also played in that game, going 0-2. Both ladies saw quality action all weekend for that team. Also over there was the Vo...

Saturday shouts

Time now for our Saturday shoutouts from high school sports. Cedarcrest is largely again our shoutout capital and we focus on volleyball. The Red Wolve ladies are 4-0 in league for the first time in many, many years and it took a little bit of work last night for CHS, but once they were able to figure things out, they took care of business, taking down Foster in four sets, 27-29, 25-10, 25-14, 25-14, at Foster High School in Tukwila. Maddie Benjamin gets a shout this morning on the strength of a 14-kill, six block effort which also included an ace. Lauren Warden had 17 digs, way to go, while Paige Roberts had 16 assists along with three kills, three assists and two digs. Lola Fryc rounded it out with nine assists, six digs and three aces. Tuesday, the Red Wolves rebounded from their Monday loss which we mentioned earlier this week to Monroe and cruised past Lindbergh in three, 25-13, 25-21, 25-17. Kaylee Rogers had five kills, two aces and five digs while Lexi Beck had four kil...

Sunday college shouts

Good Sunday morning and it’s time for our weekly college sports shouts on this Sunday. Going to lead this off with something we won’t normally lead off with which is nice. We are hitting the pool for a little women’s college swimming. The season is underway in that sport at the college level, and Cedarcrest High School alum Ellie Sivesind is finding herself with a significant role to start the season with Azusa Pacific University’s ladies. In action yesterday at the Pacific Coast Swim Conference relay meet down in southern California, the Duvall sophomore competed with the Cougars’ top team in three of four events and that squad posted wins in those races, which included the 200 yard, 300 yard and 400 yard freestyle events. The Valleyite competed in the 500 yard freestyle with Azusa’s “B” team which finished second in that race. Winning times were 1:38.35 in the 200, 3:33.41 in the 400 and 2:58.01 in the 300 for the relay units. Sivesind is one of two Valley athletes competing ...

Tuesday softball shouts

Image
Good Tuesday morning and I have again for you this morning our weekly look at the girls' softball scene locally as the fall portion of the 2024-25 campaign is underway. We want to start off by having a look at a tremendously successful weekend for one of your Valley-based programs. Wildcat Fastpitch Club is now in its third season of operation and the program, based in Snoqualmie, has seen steady growth as it becomes not simply an option for local kids, but kids all over the Eastside. This season, the team has three 14U squads in addition to one 12U and a 10U, and this is off of one 12U team at the start three years ago. Two of those 14U teams met for a tournament title on Sunday up in Lynnwood. WFC's West team, coached by program head Chris West, and WFC's Johnson team, coached by Ryan Johnson, squared off for the USSSA's Smashing Pumpkins' 14U "Silver" division crown up at Meadowdale Playfield. The contest was all West as they rolled 10-0 behind a two-...
